Climate & disasters · Wildfire

Wildfire risk to communities. Mapped before the season starts.

The official daily fire risk map tells you how dangerous tomorrow is across a region. A wildfire twin answers the next question: which villages, roads and services would be exposed if a fire started, and how fast people could leave.

The questions

  • Which settlements sit in the most likely fire paths under typical summer winds?
  • If one road is cut, how long do the remaining evacuation routes take?
  • Where would clearing vegetation reduce risk for the most people?
  • How did past fires spread, and does the model reproduce them?

What the twin would model

  • Fuel and vegetation from satellite land-cover data
  • Terrain, slope and aspect
  • Wind and dryness from weather forecasts
  • Roads, evacuation routes, water points and shelters
  • Permanent, seasonal and tourist populations

Who it is for

Regional civil protection, municipalities, forestry services, insurers and infrastructure operators.

Not a replacement for official warnings. In an emergency always follow the Hellenic Civil Protection and the 112 service. Our work is for planning ahead.

Public sources we plan to start from

Listing a source does not mean we have a partnership with it. These are public datasets we plan to evaluate.
